I Ransack Public Libraries, and Find Them Full of Sunk Treasure // Virginia Woolf Bookish Quote Art Print

I Ransack Public Libraries, and Find Them Full of Sunk Treasure // Virginia Woolf Bookish Quote Art Print

I first encountered this wonderful Virginia Woolf quote -  I ransack public libraries, and find them full of sunk treasure - on a bookmark in the British Library in London. I had a little time between meetings while at a conference in the city, and decided to use the break to have a little look at books, because, well, books are great.

This bookmark has kept my place in more than a few books over the year or two; it is currently marking my place in Zweig's The World of Yesterday, and was used recently as I finally sat down to read my first books by Virginia Woolf; Mrs Dalloway.

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin // Book Review

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin // Book Review

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that, as a feminist and a sci-fi fan, I've only recently read my first Ursula K. Le Guin novel. Part of why I hadn't delved into her work before was the immense scope of her writing; where on earth do you start with an author who has been prolific for decades upon decades?

After her death, I realised that I had to stop dawdling and pick something. After asking for recommendations, and as my partner and I are currently collecting the SF Masterworks novel releases, I decided upon The Left Hand of Darkness.

Japanese Novels All About Cats // Reading List

Japanese Novels All About Cats // Reading List

Japan is well-known for its reverence of cats. Felines are regarded as a sign of good luck throughout the country, and it's a common occurrence to run into a shrine devoted to this wonderful furry animal when travelling around the country.

This devotion has trickled into Japanese literature. There are more than a few plays, cultural tales and books where cats play a central role. As a self-confession crazy cat lady, a voracious reader and a bit of a Japanophile, I've of course read more than a few of these novels. And what always strikes me is how the authors so often use cats to depict the intricacies of human life, love and emotion.

Here are a few of my favourites, and one I can't wait to get reading.

Feline Flora & Fauna - 8 Delightful Cat & Flower Inspired Goodies // Wish List

Feline Flora & Fauna - 8 Delightful Cat & Flower Inspired Goodies // Wish List

One of the first illustrated pieces I created for my site was a wooden brooch of a ginger cat surrounded by flowers. Since then I've been mulling over a few ideas for some feline floral designs (a sticker pack for crazy cat ladies who are also plant lovers? 🤔). And just having a little look at the shops of some of my favourite makers and illustrators, it seems to be a popular combo. So I thought I should share a few of my current favourites.

Sneak Peek of New Feminist and Book-Inspired Products Coming to A Rose Cast

Sneak Peek of New Feminist and Book-Inspired Products Coming to A Rose Cast

It's been a little while since I've added a new item to my store. In fact, there have only been a handful of new additions since last October when I relaunched A Rose Cast. So I've been working hard on a few new additions, focusing on ideas that will hopefully plug a few holes I've noticed in my product range; namely more book related items, especially where literature and feminism meet.

I'm hoping to add a few of these new items in the next few weeks, so that they are ready for both my online customers and for my wholesale clients (if you want to stock any of A Rose Cast's items for wholesale, please head over to my wholesale page to learn more and view my catalogues). But for now until you get the chance to see the finished pieces, here are a few sneak peeks.
