Today I'm releasing another one of my Haruki Murakami illustrations. This time it is of Dance Dance Dance, another surreal novel that I found lot a fun to read.
A kind of sequel to A Wild Sheep Chase, but one that can be read alone, Dance Dance Dance is quite a strange book, with a clairvoyant teenager, a man who dresses as a sheep, and worrying dreams to mention but a few things. I really get a kick out of these kinds of novels; there is no need to wonder about the reason for these metaphysical events. Just sit back and enjoy the fun ride Murakami brings you on. I find myself smiling all the way through when reading these Murakami novels.
As I've mentioned before when sharing my other Haruki Murakami illustrations, a few years ago I decided to do an illustration for each of Haruki Murakami's novels in order to practice. Each was hand drawn in pencil and coloured digitally in Photoshop. I was surprised by how popular they became, and had many people asking if any of them were for sale as prints. But I wasn’t quite happy enough with them to have them printed; I was at a point where I was still deep into training and hadn’t yet developed a style I was settled on.
Two and a half years went by. I was now working full time as an illustrator and designer, my skills had developed fourfold, and I had a look and feel I was delighted with. So I felt that maybe it was time to recreate the whole project and finally allow fellow Murakami fans to purchase them as prints and other products.
So here is my new version of the illustration for Murakami’s novel, Dance Dance Dance. The illustration this time is of a hotel that pops up both this book and A Wild Sheep Chase Chase. Some of those doors in the distance were difficult to paint as I was still trying to retain a good bit of detail on the door frames!
You can also save by purchasing a set of different Haruki Murakami A6 prints on the store as well.
