While working on my new collection, I didn't have any plans to add to my jewellery section. I had designed both art prints and greeting cards inspired by the Rosie the Riveter icon of World War II, with the addition of a nasty women tattoo, thinking that was as far as the concept and illustration would go. But when I came to order more wooden printed charms for my necklaces and brooches, I realised I needed another design to make up the numbers.
So I thought, let's see how this image works for jewellery design?
So often unplanned ideas turn into the most successful.
I currently have sold a number of the brooches, and thanks to being featured in the Buzzfeed article '22 Zero-Fuck-Giving Gifts For The Most Badass Feminist In Your Life' I am left with a single necklace. (Don't worry; more are on the way!) It's also been included in Mrs Helicopter Writes Feminist Gift Guide. So it's definitely a perfect Christmas present.
So if you're on the lookout for an original gift for a feminist friend for Christmas, maybe this wooden brooch or rose gold necklace is the perfect addition to her favourite outfit, her bag or coat.
